In the early morning leave Amman to drive for about 2 ½ hours along the desert highway to Petra to enjoy a full day visit of the ancient Nabatian city.  From the Petra Visitor’s center, mount your horse (optional) for a short 400 meter ride to the entrance of the siq (a long narrow gorge), dismount and continue on foot through the Siq arriving first at the magnificent site of the Treasury.  Continue your walk to visit the Theatre, the Court house, and the Roman Columns located in the Basin.  If you are up to it, from there walk up 800 steps to the Monastery.  Return to the visitor’s centre on foot and then drive back to Amman.  Don’t forget to remain hydrated and use sun block.
